REVERY.AI (YCS21)

Shop and share fashion, in just one app

Revery.AI uses AI to realistically visualize clothing on personal avatars. I led the 0-to-1 design and strategy of our iOS app, where users can virtually shop, try on and share fashion content. I drove adoption of the first 10K users and scaled the app for version 2.0. Our App was also featured to 2.5M readers on Fashionista.

Opportunity

Successful B2B integration inspired a business opportunity to use virtual try-ons for creative expression.

Our virtual try-on integration with Saks Fifth Avenue revealed that users enjoy experimenting and sharing their styles, which motivated the creative potential of virtual try-ons.

Success metrics

Goals and success metrics

We underestimated the difficulty in establishing our presence in the fashion community on platforms such as high fashion Twitter. However, once we were able to onboard a few hundred users, it acted as a catalyst for further growth.
[ User adoption ]

Goal:
10K users within 6 months.
Actual: 8 months.
[ Monthly active users ]

Goal: 1500+ MAU within 6 months.
Actual:
Exceeded with 1700+ MAU (Oct’22) 2000+ (Jan’23).

User research

Generative research on how people expressed their styles.

There was a risk of assuming that our technology would immediately appeal to potential users. I used multiple methods to understand how fashion content creators engage, shop, and seek inspiration.

I posted threads on reddit to seek inspiration. (ethnographic research)
I conducted 5 interviews with fashion nano-influencers.

Mass user survey (287 responses) about fashion on social media.

User research ︎︎︎ Design principles

Creators often source inspiration from various sources on the internet. However, once they find inspiration, they need to curate, edit, and prepare the content for publishing on their desired platforms. This process often involves switching between multiple apps or tools, which can be time-consuming and inefficient.

[ Insights ]

Users value authenticity in content shared.
Creators switch between multiple apps to create content.
Close-knit community who seek inspiration and collaboration.

[ Design Principles ]

Focus on expression instead of brand promotion.

Integrated platform that provide creation assets and editing tools.

Facilitate discovery of other creators and shareable assets.

Co-design

Conceptualized an integrated social ecommerce platform.

I brought on 5 target users, CEO, PM and engineer to ideate and prioritize features for MVP. Together, we conceptualized a one-stop shopping, styling and and social platform that aimed to attract creators to produce content and trigger a network effect of brands and shoppers.
